Specific Purpose: To honor Emma Watson and give hope to the community
mourning her passing.
Thesis Statement: In memory of Emma, I would like to honor some of her
achievements and services, and remind you all of what she found to be truly
important in life.
Introduction:
I. Attention-getting married: Good morning, I stand before you today,
the representative of a family in grief, in a community in mourning.
II.
Establish Credibility: For those of you who dont know me, I am Karly
Hamad. I was Emmas PR spokesperson and close friend for the last
five years.
III. Preview/thematic Statement: In memory of Emma, I would like to honor
some of her achievements and services, and remind you all of what
she found to be truly important in life. She loved her family very much,
was extremely passionate about humanitarian work, and believed that
every human being deserves to be treated with respect.
[Transition: To begin, Id like to touch on how important family was to Emma.]
Body
I. Emma was so thankful for every moment spent with her family.
a. She revered her parents, Jacqueline and Chris, as her ultimate
role models, and she was extremely close to her brother Alex.
b. Alex and Emma were born in Paris, but the Watsons later moved
to England where they made their permanent home.
c. Emma believed that what really formed her as a person was
what she did within her family to make strong relationships with
them.
d. She often said that what she had to do to receive attention in her
family was to have a good conversation at the dinner table.
[Transition: In addition to being a family person,]

Emma was a driven actress, who was always hungry to push herself
and learn more.
a. She studied singing, acting and dancing at the Stagecoach
Theatre Arts School at Oxford, and performed in many school
plays.
b. Her natural instinct for acting was first noticed when she won a
poetry competition, at the age of seven, after she had recited a
famous poem at the event.
c. By age nine, Emma had auditioned for and booked the role of
Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series.

d. She was so grateful for this role which kick started her entire
acting career, and helped shape her into the strong woman that
she was.
e. In addition to working on the set of Harry Potter, she graduated
from Brown University with a degree in English.
[Transition: Though acting was one of Emmas greatest passions, she also
invested so much time and energy into humanitarian work.]

She was particularly passionate about gender equality and fair trade
businesses.
a. By the young age of 24, Emma had already been active in the
promotion of girls education for several years and had visited
Bangladesh and Zambia as a part of her humanitarian efforts.
b. She had also worked to endorse fair trade and organic clothing
and was an ambassador for Camfed International, which is a
program to educate girls in rural Africa.
c. Emma was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the UN
Women, and was dedicated to advancing gender equality around
the world.
d. She was on a mission to make sure that womens voices from all
over the world were heard at the United Nations.
e. One of Emmas most proud moments was when she gave a
moving speech at a special event for a campaign aimed at
advancing gender equality at the United Nations headquarters in
2014.
[Transition: These are only a few of the many accomplishments and causes
that Emma worked for, and through her actions she has helped so many.]

Summary Statement: Throughout her life Emma showed the world


that she was a strong, compassionate, and talented woman who
fought for what she believed in.
Concluding Remarks: Thank you Emma, for your brilliant mind, for
your passion and commitment to equality, for your leadership, for
your devotion to your family, and for your love of bettering the
world.
