2016-2017

Job: Obtain a job in multicultural programming as a Program Coordinator or residence


life as a Resident Director
Professional Development: Join a professional organization (NASPA, ACPA, ACUHOI)
Professional Development: Attend a conference, hopefully with funding provided by the
institution. Does not have to be national, could be local/regional. Build network.
Skills Development: Advising, serve as a club advisor for a Latin@ or LGBTQ+ student
organization
Skills Development: Assessment; take on an assessment project for department to
enhance assessment skills
Skills Development: Supervision; obtain a job where I get to supervise 4+ student
workers and/or 1 graduate assistant
Mentorship: Stay connected to old mentors at other institutions while seeking new
mentorship at current institution.
Assessment: Find an assessment certification course or take on a project that requires
assessment heavy work to improve on assessment and data collection.

Year 2
2017-2018

Job: Reflect on year 1 of job 1. Figure out what competencies need strengthening and
work with supervisor to find opportunities to strengthen
Job: Join a university task force that is centered around social justice issues (i.e. trans*
task force, diversity and inclusion)
Professional Development: Apply to present at a regional conference with a colleague
(NASPA Regional)
Professional Development: Attend a regional conference if funding is available +
present if accepted
Skills Development: Undocumented Students; join or help establish a university
committee centered on supporting undocumented students
Skills Development: Assessment; take on an assessment project for department to
enhance assessment skills
Skills Development: Supervision; continue in job where I get to supervise 4+ student
workers and/or 1 graduate assistant
Academic Development: Take a night class at a community college (a language course)
Law & Policy: Look for opportunities to join judicial/conduct committee
Job: Go into final year of Job 1 in Residence Life or Multicultural Programming
Job: Begin job searchingintentionally at a school with tuition benefits
Academic Development: Begin looking at PhD programs not limiting myself to higher
education also looking at Ethnic Studies and Gender Studies
Professional Development: Apply to present at a national conference (NCORE if
working in Multicultural Programming or NASPA if working in Residence Life). Present
if accepted
Professional Development: Join a knowledge community through NASPA.
Law & Policy: Look for opportunities to join judicial/conduct committee

Year 3
2018-2019

Year 4
2019-2020

Job: Transition to a new role at a university with tuition benefits


Academic Development: Potentially take a graduate certificate course
Professional Development: Take on leadership role in NASPA knowledge community
Professional Development: Begin PhD program process.

Year 5
2020-2021

Job: Reflect on year two of job and figure out areas of growth. Begin a soft search for
another internal position if necessary
Academic Development: Apply to PhD program(s)
Professional Development: Join another knowledge community.
