There are many different leadership styles that are adopted by great leaders. There is no one
foolproof leadership style that will work all the time. Great leaders know this and therefore
they adjust their style to suit the audience. Below posted are ten widely accepted styles of
leadership today.
1. Autocratic leadership
Autocratic leadership is where leaders have absolute power over their followers.
2. Bureaucratic leadership
Bureaucratic leadership is where the leaders follow rules rigorously and ensure that their
followers follow procedures precisely.
3. Charismatic leadership
Charismatic leadership is when a leader leads by inspiring others rather than giving
instructions.
4. Participative leadership
Participative leaders invite other members of the team to contribute to the decision making
process.
5. Laissez-faire leadership
Laissez-faire leaders give their teams more autonomy and step in only to supervise.
6. Relations-oriented leadership
With relations-oriented leadership, leaders are focused in developing the people in their
teams.
7. Servant leadership
When an individual at any level within an organization leads by meeting the needs of the
team.
8. Task-Oriented leadership
Task-oriented leaders focus only on getting the job done.
9. Transactional leadership
This style of leadership starts with the idea that team members agree to obey their leader
totally when they accept a job.
