Language Arts / Writing

Dear Parents,
Our Tishomingo County Schools Common
Formative Assessment for ELA and Math
was given this week. I will use this
information to assess how my current
instructional strategies are working with my
students. If there are any who are
struggling, I will work individually with them
and present information other ways.
Students that appear to have mastered the
outcome or goal being formatively
assessed will have learning opportunities
planned that challenge them. Also, I can
identify misunderstandings students may
have and adapt my instruction accordingly.
Students can use formative assessment
information to determine what they need to
do to achieve the goals or outcomes of the
material tested. The information provided
by formative assessment strategies can
also be used to help students reflect on
current learning goals or set new goals.

Curriculum News
Writing Process - We will continue working on
responding to prompts for writing narratives,
opinion, and informational writing pieces, all of
which follow the same basic format.
Mentor Sentences These are great sentences
that students explore throughout the week, form a
grammatical perspective and a writing perspective.
Students will take a test on Fridays based on the
information learned from these sentences. (They
should be bringing their journals home to
study!)
Vocabulary Students will begin a new vocabulary
program after Spring Break. This program is titled
Wordly Wise 3000 and comes with a free website
for them to practice their words online. The website
to use is www.wordlywise3000.com.
