Title: Solfege work


Grade Level: 7th-12th Grade

Objectives:
1. Students will be able to learn and remember Curwen hand signs
2. Students will be able to identify and fill in solfege syllables for sight reading exercises
3. Students will be able to sight read the exercises using both hand signs and syllables
4. Students will be able to split into parts, each singing one exercise

Materials:
1. Essential Sight-Singing Pg. 16
2. Piano

Procedure:
1. Teacher will give students the first solfege syllable (do), and explain that do depends on the
key.
2. Teacher will have students volunteer and write the syllables on the board
-Each will write one measure each and rotate
3. Teacher will have students sing the exercises one at a time
4. Teacher will have students sing the exercises in parts
-two parts together
-split into three parts
-split into four parts

Assessment:

1. Teacher will listen to students for correct notes and rhythms (group)

2. Teacher will listen for correct solfege syllables (group)

3. Teacher will visually observe each student for correct Curwen hand signs (individual)

4. Teacher will listen for correct harmonies within the voice parts (group)
