I got the following numbers from the US Census.

They correspond to 2006-2008 and therefore is a

three-year estimate.

Brookline’s total population is estimated at 62,225. 79.4% of Brookline residents are white, compared
to the 74.3% of the U.S. population that is white. When compared to the U.S. for percentages of
population, Brookline has a siginificantly lower percent of Blacks and significantly higher percent of
Asians. 2.7% of Brookline residents are Black, and 13.6% are Asian, compared to U.S. percentages of
12.3% and 4.4% respectively.

One statistic that stands out is that 78.4% of Brookline residents hold a Bachelors degree or higher,
compared to 27.4% of U.S. residents that do. The median household income for Brookline is $94,476
and the median family income is $132,121, compared to $52,175 and $63,211 for the U.S. The median
value of an owner-occupied Brookline house is $658,800, compared to $192,400 for the U.S. Brookline’s
per-capita income is $62,620, while the U.S.’s is $27,466.

With all the income related statistics that show Brookline significantly better off than the general U.S.
population, it is surprising that the number of Brookline individuals below the poverty line is only slightly
lower than the numbers for the U.S. (12.8% to 13.2%)

Brookline is home to both Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village. Coolidge Corner is a busy strip of
expensive boutiques, restaurants, a few bars, other shops and the Coolidge Corner Theatre. Both
Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village have their own libraries. Brookline Village is smaller than
Coolidge Corner but has a good number of restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. Coolidge Corner is
served by the MBTA’s “C” line of the green line, while Brookline Village is part of the “D” line of the
green line.

Brookline has one high school (Brookline High School) and eight elementary schools.

Brookline Government
