published / or : ..Anita Shreve published in 1998 by Aback Bay Book. It is one of her most successful books, besides it is among Oprahs Book Club selection. It is an absorbing story about how much we can really know(w.o. = relative clause) about our (w.w) partner, and when to be sure that our version of the reality is the unique.
A wife receives in the middle of the night the awful news
that her husband has died. He was a pilot, it seems that his plane has exploded, somewhere in the air
during a
transatlantic flight. One hundred and three people died.
From that episode, the author describes how the wife, Kathryn, dazed by the rumours and news about the accident causes, tries to keep her strength up despite the grief. The media are focused on the tragedy at both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and hungry for details start to publish mysterious rumours about her husband. Furthermore, as her daughter Mattie, who is
only fifteen, is completely out of control because of the shock,
she needs also to deal with the teenager sorrow. While the airline tries to find the reason for the accident, and the investigation continues, bizarre secrets about her husband come out. First, she confronts her new situation ignoring the rumours and starts to organize her new life despite the grief, focusing on her daughters healing process, arranging domestic chores, bank documents, her husband clerical belongings.and then, by chance, she discovers hidden withdrawals, poems, postcards that were not sent to her, hotel nights not spent with her Determined, she set out to tug a threat that leads her to unravel the true story of her marriage and the double life the pilot had been running.
The last part(subject) of the book is really gripping
and I recommend that novel, because it is highly readable and the enticing plot really absorbs you. It is the only title I have read by the author but I think it is worth reading the rest of the novels. Fairly good range of vocabulary
