ENGLISH TEST 2015

Unit one: NOUNS (text understanding)

Name:__________________
Date: ____ - 5 - 2015

Marks:

A. Reading comprehension: Read the passage below carefully and answer the questions
that follows. [15 marks]
Molly:
Aunt Betty:

Why don't we buy a new car, Mum? That will solve all the problems!
I guess so, but it is not cheap to buy a car! I'm sure I can live with our
humble "boneshaker" whenever I think of the costs involved.

A few weeks later, Uncle Dennis receives a letter and is pleasantly surprised. His face
lights up as he reads the letter.
Uncle Dennis: I've got some astounding news! You won't believe this!
Molly can hardly contain her excitement.
Molly:
Come on, Dad, What's the good news?
Uncle Dennis:
We've won the grand prize of a lucky draw and it's a car! It is just
what we
need! Isn't that great?
Aunt Betty: This is simply unbelievable! We don't need to pay a single cent for the
new car.
The next weekend, Molly and her parents go down to the showroom to get their car. From
afar, they can see a polished red Beetle. It is as red as a fire engine. Aunt Betty beams
with delight at the sight of their brand new car.
Adapted from "The Grand Prize"
