Introduction
As you know CGLE contains 3 stages namely TIER-I, TIER-II & Interview. The last stage is the toughest among all and tier-II being
the easiest. Certain reasons are there behind this particular view.
1. Endless scope of questions asked in the interview. In tier-I its only GK section which has no limit for its syllabus; but in an
interview its even wider.
2. In Tier I, Tier II there is one whole hour of time for 100 marks but in the interview one is with only 15-20 minutes.
So its importance cant be ignored and thus should be treated with most sincerity. In CGLE-2010 only 28% of the candidates
who were called for the interview scored 60 or above; which shows how tough the interview stage is. Generally the interview
runs from 15 minutes to 20 minutes and is conducted by a team of 3-4-5 members. Remember the board members not only try
to judge your general knowledge or any other subject matter specifically but also watch how (in what manner) you respond to a
particular query. So it becomes of paramount importance that in addition to have a very good command on the subject matter
you should also learn to give responses desirably.
Remember HONESTY IS THE KEY! Therefore if you are unable to give an answer correctly its better to admit your ignorance. But
it doesnt mean you take the things casually; it will always be in your favors if you answer the query correctly and in time. So
prepare your knowledge well.
Importance of Interview
The SSC has discretion to fix minimum qualifying marks in interview for each category of candidates. In CGLE-12 there were
qualifying marks (cut-offs); 25 for UR and 20 for others (reserved categories) in the interview. So by going through the above
you cant conclude that these will be the cut-offs in the following years also, but its very much clear that they will be the same
more or less. Therefore the importance of the interview increases more.
It is quite possible that candidates performing exceedingly well in the written find their names in the select list despite their
poor show in the interview; like it happened in the case of a candidate whose score in the interview in CGLE-10 was just 25
against his score of 504 in written. And many more such cases. Had his score in the interview been average at least, he would
have been among the top ten; and not the 152nd rank that he actually got.
Vice Versa is also true; a candidate can surpass candidates scoring good in the written by scoring high marks in the interview. So
interview is very important.

INTERVIEW MANNERISM
Walk into the room and close the door behind you if it was closed before you entered. Dont ask permission to enter as you
have already entered. Walk up to where the interviewers are seated but remain standing till you are asked to sit down. Say
Good Morning (before noon), Good Afternoon (from noon to about four) or Good Evening as the case maybe. Dont greet by
saying Hello.
You should try to look calm. Never play with your clothing or papers. While giving a response you should be looking the
interviewer in the eye but must not stare fixedly at him. Dont ask him any question. Dont pretend you are an expert. Use a
sincere and friendly tone of voice in speaking. Keep your phone set in silence or switch off mode; but if the phone in the room
rings during the interview or somebody enters the room dont appear to be listening.
When any of the interviewers indicates with words or gestures that interview is about to end; prepare to leave. Smile; say
Thank you and look at each interviewer in turn. Dont offer to shake hands unless the Chairman or other members offer their
hands first. Then leave without looking back. Close the door after you leave if it was closed before.

6. Expression of job experience, if any, desirably if one shows any experience in the bio-data form; he should be well prepared
on the questions based on that experience. Otherwise he will lose instead of gaining something.
7. Leadership qualities
8. Hobbies- Guys are advised to show only one hobby; and that one about which they know the maximum and are most
comfortable. Generally we tend to show many to impress the panel; but Im sure it will harm only. If you want to show more
than one; show it only when you are good in questions on them. Otherwise show only ONE.
9. Extra co-curricular activities shown. If you didnt participate in any one better to leave the column blank.
10. NCC etc

10.many Job aspirants are not serious about providing details of hobbies of interests in the bio data form. Many activities in
which the candidates do not any actual interests are included in the mistaken notion that there will not be further probing on
them. Many write Listening to songs as a hobby with no actual interest in listening to song. When they are questioned about
type of songs they listen to, they are clueless. Remember, one lie leads to another and so on. In the interview you have to
highlight your strengths and good qualities and not imaginary hobbies or interests.

Do use the opportunity to showcase yourself and at the same time do not give the impression that you are boastful about
your achievements.
Dont claim possession of skills, talents and aptitudes you actually do not possess, further questions on them may show that
your claim is not true
Dont inquire about the pay, perquisites and related issues in the interview. It is expected that you are already aware of them
before you actually appear for the interview
Never cross your arms on your chest. If you are sitting with your legs crossed it should be done in a manner which will not be
taken aas aggressiveness or over confidence.Ladies are more confortable in this posture but they too should not to do it in such
a manner that it is mistaken or arrogance.
There is no harm in admitting that you do not have much knowledge about the issue posed to you. Often lack of adequate
knowledge can also be converted into a advantage. You can always keep saying that you do not have deep knowledge about
the issue and then outline what you actually know about it.
Do not overdo anything in interview. Self Restraint, optimism a pleasant but occasional smile and organized replies can win
the day for you
Do not give the impression to the interview board that you have not adequately prepared for the interview. Treat each
interview as a once life time opportunity, prepare for it and show in the interview, through your replies, that you have done
good preparation for the interview. Do not claim lack of preparation because of illness, family problems, family events etc,
Do not display poor or lack of knowledge about the job requirements and how you will fit into the job
Do not forget to thank the interview board before leaving, after conclusion of interview
