Oxfam reaction: G20 Finance Communiqué

Oxfam spokesperson Bernice Romero said:

ON THE FINANCIAL SECTOR TAX

[communiqué p3]

"There might be resistance to bank taxes now, but when the G20 ministers go home
to confront angry taxpayers, they won't have forgotten who should be paying to
clean up this mess."

"All eyes are now on the G20 heads of state summit in June. It would be shameful if
rearguard action from Canada scuppers a bank tax after the IMF has given it a
stamp of approval."

ON G20 GOVERNANCE

"The G20 is more representative than the G8. But if the European Union is a
member, why not the African Union? Africa also needs a seat at the table.”
