My lesson objective is:

- Students will be able to identify different parts of an informal letter and learn the most
common opening and closing salutation formulae in order to be able to write an informal letter.
Till now the students have familiarized with the layout of an informal letter. They are able to name the
main parts of a letter and use the most common opening and closing salutation formulae.
GUIDED PRACTICE
In plenary.
The teacher revises briefly with the class the main parts of an informal letter. Then he sketches on the
board a drawing of a boy /girl.
The teacher asks the class to give a name to the sketched boy/girl and writes it on the board.
Then the teacher asks the class to imagine how he/she spent the summer holidays. He elicites
students' answers by asking wh-questions.
The teacher writes students' suggestions on the board .
At the end when there is enough information about the invented character, the teacher with the help of
the class complete a gapped letter using the notes written down on the board.
LESS-GUIDED PRACTICE
Group work
The teacher tells the students they are going to work in groups to produce a letter similar to the one
they have filled in in the previous activity.
The students have to invent a new character and decide about what he/she did during his/her summer
holidays. Each group has to write a letter,at the end the spokesperson reads the letter in plenary. The
teacher goes round to help.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE
Individual work
The teacher asks the students to write a letter to a classmate to tell him/her about how they spent their
summer holidays.
The teacher gives the students an assignment sheet to clarify what is aspected as a final product.
Example:
- the letter has to contain all the main parts of an informal letter.
- the students have to use the appropriate salutation formulae .
- etc.
