    mySeniorProject.MyprojecthasbeentotakeontheroleofAssistantMusicalDirectorfora
    benefitconcertputonbyItsaNewDay.Thisnonprofitorganizationdevotesitstimeto
    nurturingtheyouththroughartsandthisparticularbenefitconcertisafundraiserforthevocal
    musicdepartmentsofeveryhighschoolinSimiValley.Ichosethisprojectbecauseofone,the
    factthatitgivesbacktomusicprograms(whichisimportantbecausetheyoffersomuchto
    students,butreceivesolittlefunding)andandtwo,thefactthatitwouldteachmehowto
    handlebeingbehindthescenesofashow,asopposedtoperforming(whichIusuallydo).

    MyjobasAssistantMusicalDirectorrequiresavarietyofskills.Firstandforemost,Ineedto
    demonstrategoodmusicianship.Theconcertismadeupofsoloperformersfromallofthehigh
    schoolsinSimiValleyandIamresponsibleformakingsuretheyputonthebestperformance
    possiblebothvocallyandvisually.Thisincludesmakingsuretheyunderstandhowtoproperly
    warmuptheirvoicesandemotionallyconnecttotheirsongsothattheycanconveythe
    messageofthesongtotheaudience.Iamalsoresponsibleforcomingupwithproper
    instrumentationforeachsong,foreachperformerisaccompaniedbyalivehouseband.This
    includesdeterminingwhichnumbersrequirespecialinstruments(suchasharmonica,banjo,
    andauxiliarypercussion)andworkingatthesoundboardthedayoftheshowtomakesureallof
    theinstrumentsareproperlymixed.Ialsoamresponsibleforthefinaleoftheshow,whichIboth
    arrangedandamteachingtothecast.Ihavehadandamcontinuingtohaveawonderfultime
    workingbehindthescenesof,whatwillbe,aphenomenalshow.SomechallengesIhavecome
    across,however,aredealingwithabsencesofcastmembers,whichleadstodifficultiesin
    rehearsal,anddisputesamongthemembersofthehousebandintermsofmusic,whichalso
    leadtodifficultiesinrehearsal.Ihavemanagedsuchdisputesbyadvocatingforcompromise.

    TheexperienceIhavehad,andamhaving(beingthattheshowisnotuntilFebruary27th)as
    AssistantMusicalDirectorhastaughtmesomuchaboutthemusicindustryandtheprocessof
    puttingtogetheralargescalemusicalproject.Iamsogratefulforthecastandmymentor,
    JessicaHarrison,forworkingsohardtomakethisawonderfulshow,andcouldnotbeany
    happierthattheshowsproceedswillgodirectlybackintomusic.Thankyousoverymuchfor
    learningaboutmyproject,andIhopeyouenjoymypresentation.
