• What does Joshua charge the leaders of Israel to
do when he is dead?
• What big failure sets up the book of Judges in
Judges 1?
• What is the story of Ehud all about?
• What was Deborah’s job in Israel?
• How many men does Gideon’s army start with?
How many does God whittle it down to?
• What happened in Israel “as soon as Gideon
died”?
• How does Abimelech die?
• What was Jephthah’s vow and why was it tragic?
Judges, Israel’s adolescence
The time period of the Judges could be considered to be
much like a period of adolescent trials between Israel
and their Father, God. Throughout the book of Judges,
Israel is found testing God and running away to idols
and other things that look promising to them.

Yet while these thing may have been attractive to Israel

at the time, they constantly need to be rescued out of
their bad decisions.

The Judges are not so much judicial in their nature, but

are rather clan leaders and warlords that fill the
temporary leadership gap between Joshua and the
establishment of a new ruling system (monarchy) in
Samuel.

Please don’t throw this away. If you’re not going to use it, leave it for
someone else to use.
