Like his insect friends, he starts out 
as an egg, which can be smooth like a

or bumpy and spiky.
Like other eggs, he grows and grows 
and grows….
and when he gets big enough, he 
starts eating his way out!

CATERPILLAR!

He still has 
more growing 
and changing 
to do!
So the caterpillar eats and eats and 
eats…

until…
it’s time to wrap himself in his 
cocoon, or chrysalis. He is now in the 
PUPA stage, where he will grow and 
change.
