THE COLOR WHEEL

WARM & COOL COLORS

ANALOGOUS COLORS

Colors located next to each other on the color


wheel.

For Example:
Yellow
Yellow-Orange
& Orange

COMPLIMENTARY COLORS

Colors located opposite one another on the color


wheel.

For Example:
Yellow & Purple
Red & Green
Blue & Orange

TINTS AND SHADES


Tints: Mixing a color
with white to make a
color lighter.
Shade: Adding black,
or a colors
compliment, to a color
to make a color
darker.

PRIMARY COLOR VALUE SCALES

In Sketchbook use a ruler to draw 3 rectangles.

1 inch tall by 6 inches long

Create a value scale for each of the primary


colors
Use analogous and complimentary colors
NO BLACK

Value scales should blend from darkest to


lightest.

Use light pressure and layer colors
