Field Trip: Calling All Chaperones!

As mentioned last week, our field trip will be held on May 11th and will last for most of
the day (roughly 9am-2pm). We will leave at the very start of the day and return after
lunch. Depending on parent sign ups, I will do a drawing to see who will be chaperoning.
I have limited space in certain venues, so we do unfortunately have to limit the amount
of parents who can participate in the entire field trip. That said, ALL parents (or even
other family members) are invited to attend the picnic lunch at Richardson Sowerby
Park. Forms will go home after Spring Break!

The Great Kapok Tree

We worked on synthesizing our thinking by visualizing, inferring,
and connecting with the book The Great Kapok Tree. After
reading the book, students determined the BIG IDEA for the
entire book after finding the big idea found on each individual
page. See these beautiful illustrations and responses in our
classroom!
Partner Research Projects!
We have started to work on our partner research projects. Last week, we
picked a topic, wrote our background knowledge, and then recorded any
questions we had about our topics. This week we are going to start researching
these topics to create a poster to teacher our classmates! All of our work for
this project will be done in class.
Writing Poetry
Last week, in our poetry unit, we worked on making our poems MOODY and
using COMPARISONS to make our poems sound more poetic. We talked
about how a poem should evoke a specific emotion and that all of our decisions
should revolve around bringing that mood out. Then, we learned about how poets
often compare things (clouds are like cotton balls, or children are like busy bees)
using metaphors and similes to bring out meaning. This unit will continue for the
next couple weeks. After Spring Break, we will begin our last writing unit
Informational.
