Directions: After examining a number of different mosaics in public works of art, you will create your own small glass mosaic. You will follow an number of steps to create this mosaic, including designing your mosaic, cutting the glass, glueing the glass, grouting the mosaic and sealing it. Upon completion we will have a peer critique of the mosaics.

Objective #1: Design and Planning
Standard: The artist created an interesting design which works well as a glass mosaic, considering the flow (opus) of the glass. The design was well planned out ahead of time before being cut and glued. The design is not too simple or too complex for the artists skill level. Objective #2: Craftsmanship Standard: The artist used quality craftsmanship to construct his/her glass mosaic. The glass is well placed and secured. The glass is clean. Grout lines are even and clean. The project is durable and strong. The artist followed the necessary steps and did not skip any steps. Objective #3: Color Choice and Style Standard: Glass is deliberate in color, style and type. The colors and style chosen enhance the overall piece; the opus of the mosaic is intentional. Objective #4: Creativity Standard: The artist has taken the techniques we learned in class for creating glass mosaics and applied it in a way that is totally his/her own. The artists personality and artistic voice comes through his/her work. Objective #5: Use of Materials and Work Ethic Standard: The artist keeps materials and area clean without reminders. The artist shows respect for the materials. The artist gave a solid attempt to complete her project to the best of her ability. Not only did he/she use his/her class time well, he/she completed the project without rushing.
