Ward Earns San Diego Police Officer Association Endorsement
in District 3 City Council Race
City Council candidate Chris Ward today announced he has earned the endorsement of the San
Diego Police Officers Association in his campaign for the District 3 seat, currently held by Todd
Gloria who is unable to run again due to term limits.
With staffing numbers lower than they were 10 years ago, the San Diego Police Department
continues to lose more than 13 officers a month. These losses are a public safety issue to our
neighborhoods, said Brian Marvel, President of the SDPOA. We have the confidence that
Chris Ward has the experience and understanding to address the issues facing our department
and look forward to partnering with him to provide common sense solutions to our police
staffing and infrastructure needs. He recognizes that a safe neighborhood is a vibrant
neighborhood.
We deserve safe neighborhoods. I am grateful for the work of our police officers do, and
understand the serious obstacles the department faces. As the next Councilmember for District
3, I commit to prioritizing community policing to deter crime, improve response times, and
provide the resources to keep trained officers from leaving us.
This is the third public safety organization to endorse Ward. He is proud to have received the
endorsement of the National Latino Peace Officers Association Advocacy and the San Diego
Lifeguards Association.
Chris Ward is a longtime District 3 resident. He has experience serving all communities within
the district as Chief of Staff to Senator Marty Block, and previously was an environmental
planner for the firm EDAW. He received his Masters in Public Policy and Urban Planning from
Harvards John F. Kennedy School of Government. Chris and his partner, Thom, live in
University Heights with their baby daughter.
