Firewater System Sizing Calculation

4) Fire water ring-main, monitors and fire hydrants positions shall be finalized with
fire scenario of each fire zone during the detail design.
3.1

Design Philosophy
The flow rate is determined by the requirements of the largest single emergency in a
single fire zone. The main design philosophy may be described as below:

Water application by dedicated deluge system for the equipment on fire in the
jetty area, process area, and LNG tanks. The principle is to provide water spray
in the area of hazardous liquid storage facilities to protect them from heat of fire
so as to prevent the hazard from escalation.

Elevated remote firewater monitors with powered actuation, each rated for no
less than 216 m3/h at 7 kg/cm2G, are provided at the jetty head to protect the
unloading arm area. The function of the firewater monitors is to provide
coverage for cooling in the unloading platform on the Jetty and the manifold
area on LNG carriers.

Manually operated firewater monitors, each rated for no less than 144m3/h at 13
kg/cm2G, are planned to protect the equipment and operators in the area of
Recondenser and HP LNG pumps.

Additional water application of hoses attaching to the fire hydrants (each at

54m3/h) in each fire zone. The firewater from the hoses is mainly used to cool
the selected spots and provide water shield to allow for evacuation of the
operators.

Water curtain shall be provided between jetty and LNG carrier to shield
radiation and disperse the gas cloud. The flow rate of water curtain shall not be
less than 100 L/min/m for the curtain having the height up to 10m and the rate
of would be increased 10L/min/m as every 1m increasing of the height. It can
cover the range within 5m extending two sides of unloading arm.

3.2

Fire Zone
Based on the fire zone definition, firewater demand is decided based on single
maximum required firewater among the several fire zones. The TERMINAL is
divided into 13 fire zones, among which 10 zones are included in Phase I, while
Phase II will add 3 more. The following table shows the maximum required firewater
demand among fire scenario in each zone. The maximum fire water demand in
single fire zone among these 13 fire zones is 943m3/h which is required for the
unloading jetty area.
