KATHERINE (KATIE) BEALS

1004 Bitting St. Apt. G Greensboro, NC 27403 (804) 243-0406 katie.beals44@gmail.com

Dear Website Visitor,
I am excited to continue my career in student affairs upon my graduation from The University of North
Carolina at Greensboro with a Masters of Education in Student Personnel Administration. I am seeking
positions in orientation and transition, first year experience, or service learning and community engagement
programs.
My experiences with recruitment, selection, and training of student orientation leaders at Greensboro College
and Longwood University allow me to connect the development of student leaders with my passion for
service. By assisting students view their leadership positions as service to the institution, I strive to instill in
them my belief in the transformational experience of serving others. In addition to developing orientation
leaders, I assisted in the creation of a Peer Mentor program at Greensboro College. I designed and
instructed a weekly course in which my students reflected on their experiences as mentors and connected
them to leadership and identity development.
In my work with orientation and first-year programs, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and
staff to create intentional learning opportunities for students. At Longwood University, I assisted in planning
and implementing family and transition programs, including summer orientation and registration sessions,
welcome week programs, first-year seminar programs, and initiatives designed to educate and serve parents
and families.
As the Dawg Camp Intern at the University of Georgia, I co-advised an executive board of five students
through planning and implementing Dawg Camp, extended orientation programs based in the Social Change
Model of Leadership Development. In this role, I worked closely with these students to finalize program
logistics, prepare upperclassmen counselors for their roles during the program, and serve as an on-site
coordinator during the programs. As the on-site coordinator for the special programs, I was instrumental in
the implementation of programmatic elements such as service projects, reflection activities, and leadership
development activities. Additionally, I advised two students through the revision the diversity awareness
programming to include innovative ways to engage first-year students.
My experiences at diverse institutions, paired with my dedication to leadership development and community
engagement make me an excellent candidate for a position of this nature. Please feel free to reach me using
the contact information above to further discuss my application and candidacy. Thank you for your
consideration.
Sincerely,

Katherine E. Beals
