Student and Volunteer Sign-Up

Junior Great Books is an inquiry-based language arts program for students in 3rd - 5th grade, that
encourages students skills in reading, thinking, and communicating. The students work with complex ideas and the reading selections include well-crafted, multicultural reading selections. Students
ask questions, formulate and share their opinions, and support their ideas with evidence from the
reading selections. Junior Great Books is led by volunteers during the recess/lunch period.

Dates:

March 21 - April 22

Times:

3rd Grade: 11:55 a.m. - 12:35 p.m.

4th Grade: 12:05 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.
5th Grade: 11:30 a.m. - 12:10 p.m.

Registration Deadline:

(4 weeks, no spring break meeting)

It is important that the children who participate are interested in reading and discussing the
book selections. Please discuss this with your child before signing up.
We need parent volunteers for this program to run. Volunteers will be provided with a Leaders
Guide and will select which day they would like to meet during the recess/lunch time. Volunteers will also need to have a completed background check. Since this program is volunteer
based, we will be unable to offer the program in grades that do not have volunteers.
