Cooperating School: POLO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will gain competence in managing time space and
resources to provide an environment in which is appropriate to the learners and
conducive to learning.

Your Map
To reach your target, do the following tasks:
Observe a class.
Using a checklist, find out the evident
classroom components.
Describe how the classroom is
structured/designed to allow everyone to
participate in the learning activities.
Relate the data in your checklist to the
learners behaviour.
Reflect on how classroom management
Your affects
Tools learning.

Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.

An Observation Guide for the Learners Characteristics

Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the
provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behaviour. Are they already able to manage their own behaviour?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills and ability to concentrate.

Name of the School: POLO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Observed _____________________________________________________________
Location of the School: PALASAN COMPOUND VALENZUELA CITY
Date of Visit: JANUARY 25, 16

As we observed in the class, there are 40-50 students in each room. Their age is
around 15-18 years old. As in this stage, they can already handle their behaviour and
discipline themselves. But they are not aware on their actions and they have shortattention span. They can easily disturb as they listen even a minor disruption. I also
noticed that when theres an activity, some students move to other chairs . It means they
can't do it alone, they need the help of the others. I know that they can but they have
low self-confidence that they can.

An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT

Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information so you can
verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the
table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching
aids, books, students belongings, supplies, etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher
do?
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviours? (behaviour
strategies)
Observation notes:
As I observed there is no area for specific purposes. There are no rules and
procedures posted in the classroom. The teacher established it by himself/herself. She/he
must establish daily routines minimize the discipline time and maximize the instructional
time. There are some factors that affect the learners. Like the arrangement of chairs,
Noisy, classroom climate, and also the people around him/her. The sitting arrangement of
them is mostly based on surname, its alphabetically. Teacher used chips as a reward and
non-verbal action to whose recite and got the correct answers. It is enthusiastic to teach in
the class with learners with good behaviour. But I noticed that the students are very noisy
like they can't control themselves but teacher always treat it immediately.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT MATRIX

Aspect of Classroom
Management

Description

Effect on the Learners

(to be filled up after you
answer the analysis question)

1. Specific Areas in the

Classroom
2. Classroom Rules
3. Classroom Procedures

The room was already

cleaned before the teacher
arrived.
It must follow every now
and then.

-It makes the students alert

and enhance their sense of
being initiative.
-They are aware and always
alive

It must be done properly.

-It makes them familiar on

what the next things to do.

Two columns and each

column have five by five.

- It affects on how they

behave and learned.

Teacher treats
immediately.

-It may remarked on

students and not repeat it
again

Using reward such as chip

or verbal/ non-verbal
action

- It uplifts their soul and

become competitive and
motivated.

4. Daily Routines
5. Seating Arrangement
6. Handling
misbehavior/off-task
behavior
7. Reinforcement of
Positive Behaviour

Your Analysis
1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learners
behaviour?

The classroom organizations and routines affect the learner's behaviour on

how they behave and discipline themselves. By the given rules and regulation,
they knew what do's and don'ts in the room. The routines can facilitate them on
what the next thing to do.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom
organization and routines? What theories and principles should you have in
mind?
The teacher should mind when he/she designs the classroom organization
and routines is for the effectiveness and interactive of teaching-learning process.
The condition of students and let them to be part of building rules and regulation.
And the most important roles that teacher plays as a classroom manager because
the effectiveness and efficiency of the learning process can't take place in poor
manage classroom.
3. Which behaviour strategies were effective in managing the behaviour of the
learners? In motivating students> Why were they effective?
Reinforce positive behaviour. In motivating students as a teacher we must
have immediately response every time they got correct answer and even wrong
answers. Praise them to uplift their soul and have self-confidence.

Your Reflections
1. Improve yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year
level do you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider
for this level? Why?
I organized my classroom for my junior students. I will establish routines
such as prayer, attendance, asking my students mood at the time, checking
assignment, proceed to the next lesson, giving examples from simple to complex,
praise students who answer, give them activity for enhancement and last the
agreement for the day. As they know what they are things to do, they are aware to
listen and behave themselves. This routine makes my students responsible.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would
you choose these rules?
I want to implement rules such as the classroom was clean and organized
before I came, as I enter to the room and stand in front they stand and greet me,
they must be quiet and in their proper sits. While discussing in front I want their
eyes focus on me. I don't want any other things to do in my class. All of this rules
established with them.
If they didn't follow there is a punishment. I choose this rule for them to discipline,
and know their limitations. But its not scary climate, I am joking and telling some
story. All I want is to respect each other and for them to aware, responsible and
learned by themselves.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Yes, they must involve because as they the one who built the rules they
need to follow it and guilt to unfollow it. And they can't forget it and try to set
aside it because they know the punishment.
