A database management system (DBMS) is software that manages databases installed on a system, with different types designed for specific purposes. A database system achieves an organized storage of large amounts of associated data to facilitate multi-user access via computer hardware, software, and data technologies.

    whereasotherfiles,suchasindexfilesanddatadictionaries,storeadministrativeinformation,known
    asmetadata.
