Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come!
When you are born again your spirit is quickened by God's Spirit. The process of changing
your soul has begun. It is not unusual for a 'honeymoon time' to take placea period where
your new relationship with the Lord directs everything and it seems like your old nature is
gone. During this time, if there is no renewing of your mind, your soul (reasoning, will and
emotions) will gain supremacy again. Your spirit is encountering the Holy Spirit while your
mind seeks to direct your body. The body is neutral and responds to whatever is directing it.
The battle between your spirit and your soul becomes more evident.
When the Bible seems to be in conflict with your experience one of the reasons can be the
part you play. We are not robots; we are the avenue through which God's word becomes
experience. As long as you continue in your worldly behavior or make excuses for it, is how
long it will take for you to see godly attributes and power flowing in and through your life.
While there may be behavior that seems impossible to change, all things are possible for
God. He will enable you if you allow it. for it is God who works in you to will and to act
according to his good purpose (Phil. 2:13).
Romans 12:2 says that you learn to prove the will of God: Do not conform any longer to
the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be
able to test and approve what God's will ishis good, pleasing and perfect will. It is a
process. Since you are most likely your own worst critic it is beneficial to exercise patience
and celebrate the progress throughout this. As you spend time meditating God's word and
praying, your desire to be more like Jesus will surface and reach out for supernatural help.
Your emotions will rule you less and less. Your trust in the Lord will grow as you lean less on
endless reasoning. The peace of God (an unshakable peace that does not depend on
circumstances) will rule over your heart and mind more and more. This is good and pleases
the Lord. Jesus came to provide the pathway to victorious, overcoming, abundant life and it
delights your Father to see you gaining this.
Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit (John 3:6). The choice is yours.
