Virtual Design Project:

Locker Organizer
Team 9: Julia, Alice, and Alex

Design Process
Includes Gantt
chart and
Team Norms

Step 1:
Define the
Problem

Includes
Decision
Matrix

Step 2:
Generating
Concepts

Step 3:
Develop a
Solution

Step 4:
Construct &
Test Prototype

Step 5:
Evaluate
Solution

Step 6:
Present

Step 1:
Define the
Problem

We chose to do the Locker

Organizer

The Problem: school lockers

are a mess and students are
always losing materials

Constraints:

fits in locker, easy to install, hold

at least 5 locker items, items must
be modeled, no flammable
materials

Step 2:
Generating
Concepts

We did research on the size of

the different items chose to put
in the locker

Brainstorm:

magnetic holders

modular

hanging shelves - square vs.

slanted

Research
Normal high school lockers are made
of sheet metal - in the future, lockers
may be made of HDPE because of its
durability.
The items we chose to put in our
locker: books, binders, pencil,
calculator, backpack, lunchbox

Step 3:
Develop a
Solution

We used a decision matrix to

choose which design fit most
of our constraints and
standards

reusability, easy assembly,

organization, ability to hold items,
testability

We chose an upright pencil

holder and a hanging shelves
design

Original Ideas
These are some of the design ideas
we came up with for the locker
organizer.

Decision Matrix

Step 4:
Construct & Test
a Prototype

We built our design out of

cardboard, clear line, duct tape,
fabric, and hot glue

In reality, if we were to develop

the product:

sturdy fabric (probably polyester)

hard plastic shelves

Technical Drawings & Virtual Model vs. Physical Model

Step 5:
Evaluate the
Solution

How well does your design

meet the constraints?

Would this design logically

make the customer happy?

Would you change anything

about your design?

Step 5:
Evaluate the
Project

Overall, how did this project

go for you and your
teammates?

What would you do

differently if you got a re-do?

Gantt chart & Team Norms

What skills/lessons did you

learn?

Step 6:
Present the
Solution
