BRABENEC PASSES RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING APRIL PET CRUELTY

AWARENESS MONTH
In honor of the tragic story of an abused pit bull terrier named Sweet Sally found in the
98th Assembly District, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec (R,C,I-Deerpark) introduced Assembly
Resolution 1107 today which passed the house. The act allows Gov. Cuomo to proclaim April
2016 Pet Cruelty Awareness Month in New York State. Brabenecs motivation for the resolution
comes from the story of Sweet Sally, who was brought into the Humane Society of Port
Jervis/Deerpark as the result of severe malnutrition and abuse.
I was sincerely proud to champion this resolution in the Assembly and see its passage
today, Brabenec said. Animal abuse is absolutely unconscionable and what happened to Sweet
Sally should be met with harsh punishment. This is one of those evils that society wishes never
began. We need to adequately fund our shelters and establish strong adoption networks for pets
so no more are left without homes and in dangerous conditions. New York has made great strides
recently to combat animal abuse, and I look forward to continuing that fight.
The Eastern Pike Regional Police Department in Pennsylvania arrested a Matamoras
woman who is believed to be responsible for the horrific treatment of Sweet Sally.
