1. TARGET AUDIENCE

English Department

The target audience for this script is for 3rd and 4th graders to listen orally. Highlight
the number most appropriate where 0 is not appropriate for 3rd and 4th graders and
where 8 is fully appropriate for 3rd and 4th graders.
0

Please explain why:

The story is a great fit for your target audience. The time is about at the maximum
limit for their attention spans. The character voices you used were engaging. The
sand art created enough visual to follow and compliment the story. The sand art also
created a dream like feeling and will engage the audience by allowing them to
imagine the story in their own minds.
2. FOLLOWING THE ORIGINAL
Does this script follow the story of the Original The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian
Andersen generally well? Highlight the number most appropriate where 0 is not
similar at all and where 8 is Mostly similar.
0

Please explain why:

Your story is similar until the end. In your story the Little Mermaid becomes sea
foam. In the versions of the story I have read the mermaid turns into the wind.
Because she showed kindness to the prince (not killing him) she is turned into the
wind and can still live the 300-year life that mermaids usually do.
3. NARRATIVE STRUCTURE
Does this script follow the Narrative structure well? Highlight the number most
appropriate where 0 is Doesnt follow the narrative structure at all and where 8 is
fully follows the narrative structure.

Your video followed the two parts of narrative structure. Your story had all elements
(setting climax, conclusion etc.). The sand art was a brilliant medium with which to
capture the fairy tale elements of the story. The sand art forms and pacing guided
the narrative.
4. ENGAGEMENT
Is the script engaging to its readers/ listeners? Highlight the number
most appropriate where 0 is not at all engaging and where 8 is
Very Engaging.

Please explain why:

The script is true to the main parts of the traditional story. Some of the audience will
not be 100% engaged only because the story lacks a link to the modern world/daily
life and/or things kids enjoy like combat etc.
