tutorial on maximizing their
experience.
Module #2: Savings
Students learn important habits of
saving and budgeting, participating in
an interactive budgeting game in
which they make tough choices so
they can save for a car (while
calculating interest earned on
savings).
Module #3: Banking
Students learn about the banking
system, examine typical account
types, and learn how to complete a
check, use online banking resources,
and monitor account activity.
Students develop a practical
understanding of different account
features, like overdraft protection
plans and minimum balance
requirements.
Module #4: Payment Types, Interest
Rates, and Credit Cards
Students learn to calculate return on
investment with different interest
rates. Students become familiar with
minimum payments and fees, and
calculate the time necessary to pay
off credit card debt with only the
minimum payment.
Module #5: Credit Scores
Students learn about the importance
of a credit score and how to take
control of it. They participate in
activities that focus on the decisions
most detrimental to a credit score and
highlight how easily ones credit can
be ruined.

the student loan process, from filling
out a FAFSA to loan repayment
obligations. Topics include
scholarships, grants, loan types, good
vs. bad debt, cost of school
attendance, loan payback schedules
and return on investment. Students
assume the role of a financial advisor
to provide advice to their classmates.

Module #7: Renting vs. Owning
Students utilize a cost-benefit
analysis framework to determine
whether to buy, lease or rent a home
or vehicle. The module covers
mortgages, appreciation,
depreciation, tax incentives, lease
terms, fixed and adjustable rate
mortgages, balloon payments, liens
and foreclosures.
Module #8: Insurances and Taxes
Students assume the role of tax
consultant and complete a return to
calculate taxes owed for a client.
Students analyze scenarios to
highlight relationships between
salary, federal tax withholdings and
net pay, and evaluate health
insurance policies and associated
costs to recommend an optimal
policy.
Module #9: Consumer Fraud
This module focuses on the protection
of personal information and
avoidance of common forms of
consumer fraud, including phishing
scams, credit card and banking fraud,
and phone and utility theft. In
addition, students develop best
practices to prevent identity theft.
Module #10: Investing
This module brings students to the
floor of the major stock exchanges,
learning about stocks, bonds, mutual
funds, risk/reward dynamics, rates of
return, dividends, and coupons.
Students evaluate risk and return of
