How to Add
Calories

1. Use butter OFTEN.


Use it on rice,
potatoes, noodles,
breads, and eggs.
2. Use full fat dairy
when preparing
cream soups,
custards, puddings,
and milkshakes.
3. Use full fat cottage
cheese, sour
cream, and
mayonnaise.
4. Use lots of butter,
syrup, and creamy
nut butters on
bread, oatmeal,
pancakes, and
waffles.
5. Dont skip dessert.
Choose fruit in
heavy syrup. Add
chocolate or
caramel sauce to
ice cream or frozen
yogurt.

Getting adequate calories during and after


treatment can be difficult. However, by
making simple additions and substitutions
it is possible to increase your calories with
little effort. This pamphlet will give you
the basics to get you started. If you have
any questions feel free to ask our
Nutrition staff for help!

High Calorie Snacks

Chocolate Dream Shake


(~500kcals)

1.5 scoops chocolate ice cream


cup frozen raspberries
banana
cup chocolate milk (whole)
1 tbsp powdered milk
Ice to achieve desired thickness
Whipped cream and cocoa powder if desired

Place all items but whipped cream and cocoa


powder in blender and blend until smooth. Top
with whipped cream and cocoa powder if desired.

Adding Calories is Easy

1 tbsp peanut butter
1 tbsp butter/
margarine
1 tbsp oil
1 tbs cream cheese
1 ounce of cheese
1 tbsp maple syrup
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp chocolate
syrup
1 tbsp jelly
1 tbsp heavy
whipping cream
1 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp salad dressing
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp chocolate
fudge
1 tbsp frosting

Sample Breakfast:
2 scrambled eggs, biscuit, oatmeal, orange juice, and
coffee
How can we maximize calories?

Eggs
o
Biscuit
o

Cook eggs in butter or oil and add


one ounce of cheese. (+200kcal)
Put both butter and jelly on biscuit.
(+150kcal)

Oatmeal
o
Make oatmeal with whole milk, add
berries, sugar, honey, or maple syrup
and peanut butter. (+350kcal)
Coffee
o
Add sugar and heavy whipping
cream to coffee. (+100kcal)

Peanut Butter and Honey Sandwich


2 slices of bread, 2 tbsp peanut butter,
banana, 1 tbsp honey (575kcal)

Power Oatmeal
1 cup oatmeal (prepared with whole
milk), 2 tbsp peanut butter, 1 tbsp
honey, cup blueberries (600kcal)

Tuna or Chicken Salad with Cheese


2oz meat, 1 tbsp mayonnaise, 1oz
cheese, shredded lettuce (400kcal)

Basic Milkshake
cup whole milk, 1 cup ice cream
(360kcal). Add 2 tbsp chocolate/
strawberry/caramel syrup (+100kcal)
and/or cup berries (+50kcal)
