Summative Assessment Data Analysis:

This test was graded out of 25 points. Each questions was graded
as 1 whole point. Half credit was taken off if the student set up the
problem correctly but did not simplify correctly. For question 15,
students received 1/4th of a point for each of the 4 parts to the
problem. Half credit was given if only half of the problem was
completed (question 16 and 19). The student data graphs are
organized above by student number on the x-axis and their score on
the y axis.
Overall, students performed very well on this test. 20/23
students in Mrs. Fulton met or exceeded the unit objective, When
given a summative assessment, students will apply knowledge of
multiplication and division to solve given and real world problems
involving multiplying and dividing fractions, whole numbers, and mixed
numbers with 80% accuracy according to the teachers answer key.
21/21 students in Mrs. Buchannans class met the unit objective. After
going through an item analysis, the teacher found that the main
questions that students made errors when solving were 16, 19, 20, 21,
23, 25. On question 16, students were confused about how to shade
the picture and some were still flipping the wrong number. Number 19,
some students were confused they were supposed to be dividing.
Questions 20 and 21 were mainly due to simplifying errors when
dividing. On question 23 some student did not realize they were
supposed to divide. Finally on number 25 many students a few
students tried to divide instead of multiply.
I was proud of many of my students who had worked hard in
small group with me and received a very impressive score! Especially
student M #16 in Mrs. Fultons class who made a 95 on his
accommodated test!!! Also student M #2 who worked very hard for an
85 on this test with no accommodations! Students who scored lower
lost most of their points due to simplifying errors and mixing up when
to divide and when to multiply. Student #2 in Mrs. Fultons class is
received a 60 on his accommodated test because he rushed through it.
Even though I had him sit back down and try again, he still rushed
through so I do not feel the score is a completely accurate of his
understanding. After seeing the results of this summative assessment,
I am proud of my students learning and their hard work to achieve the
high scores they did. In the future, I would be sure to teach in more
depth comparing and contrasting when to multiply and when to divide.
I would also stress to students to simplify their work correctly, check
their work and take their time. Overall, I am very impressed with my
students work and feel the unit was successful in teaching them
multiplying and dividing fractions and mixed numbers.
