The Function of English in Geology

English is one of international language. English used to communicate

with each other and to tell our opinion about everything, especially in
science and work field. As we know, a lot of work field in geology; we will
work together with board. So, we have to understand English as well to
communicate with each other. And now, many books in the university use
English, for example the book of Sam Boggs or Gary Nichols in geology. On
the other side, in geology we use many tools like compass, GPS, etc. and the
manual instruction of these tools is written in English. If we dont understand
English, we will in trouble and not only in work field but in education too.
In geology, there are some terms used English that if those terms
translated to Indonesian it will has different meaning. For example is Fault,
if it translated to Indonesian for daily life, the meaning is Kesalahan, but in
geology that means is Patahan. It may make confused to anyone
unaccustomed with this word. So, if we want to good in geology, we must
good in English too.
Of course we can still understand geology without good in English but
we will have problem in the future.
