World Class Manufacturing is on the capability of a manufacturer to compete with other


manufacturing organizations in a competitive market, with the aspiration of achieving worldbeating standards in all organizational aspects. Therefore, to be recognized as a World
Class Manufacturing company is very important to many manufacturers or organizations in
order to win their competitors and satisfy customers satisfaction.
From your understanding, discuss the significant of this world class status to the
manufacturers or organizations in the context of winning market share and satisfy

c. To cope with the fluctuation of demand, World Class manufacturers have to ensure that
their production line is flexible in terms of output, layout design, machine performance as
well as manpowers skills. This is important in order to manage their production flow
towards high productivity and high quality. Examine critically and discuss on this statement.

d. In Toyota Production System (TPS), inventory is classified as one of the main wastes and
creating other form of wastes such as extra space, extra transportation, defects, additional
manpower, utility bills, additional production costs, etc. Moreover, one of the main
requirements to achieve JIT production system is to have minimum inventory level along a
value stream of a product. Based on your understanding, relate the importance of having
minimum inventory level to the performance of a JIT production system. (PO3:CO2/C3: 4

e. Lean Manufacturing is a production practice that considers the expenditure of resources
other than the creation of value for the end customer is wasteful. Lean strategies suggest
this waste needs to be eliminated. Discuss this statement based on companys strategies
on how to develop and organize a Lean Manufacturing organization. (PO1:CO1/C2: 4
