Discuss the differences between the Comprehension Approach and the

Communicative Approach.
The comprehension approach is based on the research carried out by Stephen Krashen
and James J. Asher, where they found that the best way to teach languages is not by
teaching using the old methods already existing, instead of through compressible input.
Students were required to listen for long periods of time, until they create a map of the
target language in their brains, which finally lead to an eventually production of the
language speaking". Use of commands the imperative" and sequencing actions were
the main activities developed in these classrooms.
The main goal of the Communicative approach was using language to communicate
meaning more than just vocabulary and grammar rules. People who love culture and
connect with people all around the world are very interesting in this methodology.
Teachers had an extensive variety of ways to conduct their classes. Use of videos,
audios, realia, pictures, games and so on. All of this with the main purpose to keep
students engaged and interested in the language.
b. Which approach most closely aligns with your current teaching style?
The comprehension and communicate approach are the state of the art in teaching
foreign language. They are the ultimate solution to those who want to learn a second
language without pain and stress. From my experience, I could say that when I was
learning English I went through to the worst moments in my life, because at that time, I
was taught by memorizing tons of grammars rules and lists of words; and as a result, I
could not speak in English at all; but, finally in my life appeared the Effortless System,
which is based on TPR storytelling and everything changed. Now I really acquired
English and feel comfortable with my level, so I am trying to persuade my students to
use this strategies (TPR), because it is the natural way of acquire a second language.
