Homework Assignment 3
A team is not a group of people who work together. A team is a group of people who trust
each others. Teams can does much better quality of work than 1 person (more than 1
mine always is better than only 1). Team building is the procedure of create The Team.
This could take time but a great leader will know whats are the qualities to find and create
the team.
2.
According to the text confrontation is not the best way to handle the conflicts. I would
handle conflicts in teams using common sense and is having an individual conversation
with each employee involve in the team without blame anyone. After I will change the
employee that does not fit in the group and recommended to talk to each other to try solve
the problem. If they cannot solve the conflict I will be having someone else not related to
that team to be the intermediary in the conflict until they agree.
3.
I will do the same that the textbook said about rewards. I will stablish a compensation
system that will be fair with both team and individual performance. I will call this Stimulus
and Response to get the best of the team work. The following schematic will explain the
system as the textbook:

independence issues, need for attention and responsibility, authority and loyalty issues.

8.
9.
To communicate in conflict situations I will follow the guidelines provided by the textbook.
These are as follow:
The initial attitude of those involved in the conflict can predetermine the outcome.
When possible, conflict guidelines should be in place before conflicts occur.
Assessing blame should not be allowed.
More of the same solutions should be eliminated.
Maintain trust by keeping promises.
High Quality
Quality suffer if there is a major conflict because this would be a distraction to many
peoples. Major conflicts happens when the team is lack of communication and confidence
between them. Without communication will not exist any message and without message
the quality will not exist. To have a high quality of work the most important is a good
communication environment with people that trust each other.

This is the famous Oprah Winfrey telling us about a very inspired event in her life.
She won a local contest back in 1971 that changed her life and start her carrier. When
she won the contest, she went to a radio station to claim her prize when a DJ heard her
and offered her a job as a conductor in radio. That way she started her carrier in radio
and then TV. This is story to motivate those people that dont think that you can do what
you want to do in life.

Experience the Futuristic $4 Billion World Trade Center Transit Hub
When 9/11 happened in 2001 the Twin Towers was destroyed and also the train
station. Thats why the city of New York spend over 4 billion dollars to build the most
expensive train station in the US. Is going to be available to the public on March 3 this
year. A very good group of architects and other professionals made this possible. Is going
to be futuristic and very modern.

Danny,
I read this same article and did a summary on it as well. I think this is something that will
spring the MTA in NYC to improve upon a lot of other subway stops as well. They have
set the bar for a futuristic train station. But there are many subway stop in NYC that could
really just use a face lift. I know they did this for the trade center because of standards
of the building. But there are many stops that need attention and improvements as well.
Such stops like grand central are obviously untouchable being historic. But penn station
could use some renovations and so on. Hopefully it pushes for more alike projects.

Undertaking this project of building such a high standard train station is a step in the right
direction but i believe it also long overdue for decision makers to make proactive decisions
instead of reactive decisions. If this futuristic and very modern train station with all the fire,
earthquake proof technology had be in place before the 9/11, lives would not have been
lost in the station during the attack and the cost of the project would not have been this
high in the past.
Although this would serve well the interest of the NY public. other cities can emulate this
project before they are taken by a storm.

Practice Makes a Career
example to the young people that are about to find their first job or their first experience
of internships. Today Kaiser Permanente is giving opportunity to hundreds of interns in
different areas to experience the job and learn more about the company. He says that
how he did it other people can do it and that is very simple, you have to practice the
profession that you chose.

Danny,
This is the way many people make a career. Its all about when you get your opportunity,
even if an internship, to take full advantage of all resources around you to learn. And you
never know it could lead to a life long dream job you've been looking for. Some people
need a little kick to get going, usually around your college years or after graduation, and
they need a mentor to inspire them. I know I have had a few mentors in college and even
up to now, without them, I would not be where I am today, especially going to graduate
school. Ive always been pushed to never be satisfied and give everything I have in my
work. And I owe a lot of that to the mentors I had along the way like Bernard Tyson.

An intern with mentorship and s/he as protege from my opinion is the right thing to do
starting a career since first and foremost protege gets to know of the details first hand if
that is the profession s/he will like to get into. The intern experience the organizational
culture and the workforce demographics hence learning to work as a team player with
diverse perspectives. Learning is at best when it involves seeing, hearing, speaking and
doing making it the best approach for an intern and a mentor.
