Eddies attitude / relationship with Rodolpho:

At first meeting, Eddie shakes Marcos hand but not Rodolphos, could connote a
foreshadowing of their difference in opinions as the play progresses

Even a little further on from the first meeting Eddie already takes a dislike to Rodolpho
by telling him to stop singing as he can see that Catherine likes the singing and likes
Rodolpho as well.

Subtle hints in stage directions to show lack of understanding and Eddie feeling
threatened by Rodolpho. He is sizing up Rodolpho, and there is a concealed
suspicion already trying to figure out what Rodolpho wants and what he is doing.

Eddie talks down about Rodolpho whenever speaking about him and questioning his
character and morals. Constant references to Rodolpho as a weird and He gives me
the heebie-jeebies all in order to get Beatrice on his side and to turn against Rodolpho
although he has done nothing wrong.

Eddie creates a false statement that Rodolpho is only going to marry Catherine to get
his passport and to become an American citizen which he keeps telling Catherine in
order to stop the marriage but this only backfires and makes Catherine distrust Eddie

Boxing key scene where the whole family is together and Eddie offers to play fight
with Rodolpho in order to teach him boxing and to display his dominance over
Rodolpho and to ensure his place as the alpha male of the family. This ends by
Rodolpho getting hit too hard and everyone getting angry at Eddie. Eddies alpha male
status is soon shattered by Marco who lifts a chair over Eddies head in a show of
dominance.

Alfieris comments & discussion with Eddie:

His eyes were like tunnels first comment about Eddie made and already an outsider
can see how bleak and dark Eddie is at this certain point and how much of a toll the
whole escapade is taking on Eddie.

Only a passion that had moved into his body, like a stranger Eddie is no longer in
control of his actions and he is only trying to break up the relationship and only cares
about getting Rodolpho out of the country and far away from Catherine.

Eddies constant lies about Rodolpho that dont work and Alfieri can see that he is
making all of the allegations up I can see it in his eyes, hes laughing at me

Eddies emasculation of Rodolpho by calling him a weird and making reference to all of
Rodolphos feminine skills which bring his sexuality into question.

Reference to Catherine as an object as he talks about Rodolpho being a thief and how
he is stealing from me!

Alfieri picks up upon the wrong in Eddie and Catherines relationship as he questions
whether Eddie could marry Catherine and Eddie is shocked and repulsed

I could have finished the whole story that afternoon shows Eddie only has one fate
and that is one he has only brought on himself.
