deceit of the dominant communist country Russia.

Napoleon, to lead Animal Farm, is someone who first lies to his people and after that
deceits them to better himself to his demands disregarding the well-being of the people.
Lies to the animals as well and having his advocate Squealer to believe and to voice it in a

was well aware of the bad results that might follow if the real facts of the food
situation were known, and he decided to make use of Mr. Whymper to spread a contrary
impression. Hitherto the animals had had little or no contact with Whymper on his weekly
visits: now, however, a few selected animals, mostly sheep, were instructed to remark
casually in his hearing that rations had been increased. In addition, Napoleon ordered the
almost empty bins in the store-shed to be filled nearly to the brim with sand, which was
then covered up with what remained of the grain and meal. On some suitable pretext
Whymper was led through the store-shed and allowed to catch a glimpse of the bins. He
was deceived, and continued to report to the outside world that there was no food shortage
on Animal Farm.
Do not begin with this quote shows

This describes how Napoleon lied about the food being scarce and how he deceived Mr.
Whymper for actually having food at the Animal Farm. Readers must understand that the
food supply is very important to these animals and that Napoleon lied about the food
supply being gone.

With the help of the rhetoric of Squealer and the fierceness of the dogs, he convinces the
animals that past events are not as they remember them for example, that Snowballs
part in the Battle of the Cowshed was exaggerated, that Napoleon had never really opposed
the windmill, and that in fact Snowball was a traitor. Snowball, even though he is never
seen again, is used as a scapegoat who is responsible for all animal hardships (May n.
Pag).
Do not begin with this quote relates to my topic because

The quote shows that Napoleon has lied about the Battle of Cowshed and that Squealer has
convinced the animals that Snowball is a traitor to the Animal Farm.

Both behaviors are caused to lie to their own comrades and take all the credit from
somebody else.

"Comrades!" he cried. "You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit
of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them
myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples
(this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the
well-being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organization of
this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for YOUR
sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples."
This describes how Squealer convinces the animal that the pigs are not selfish at all. It
explains how Squealer can relate with the animals about their problems on the farm but has
to tell them to eat and drink it anyway regardless if the animals like it or not. Readers must
understand that even when Squealer relates to the animals, he puts order for Napoleon.

The pigs move into Joness house and begin sleeping in the beds. This is in direct

commandments in order to fit their increasing status as masters of the farm. Squealer
upholds the actions of Napoleon and convinces all the remaining animals that their lives
are much better than they ever have (Glover n. Pag).
Do not begin with this quote relates to my topic because
Napoleon has deceived the animals and the seven commandments. By dealing with the
humans, he deceived the animals that believed in Old Majors beliefs and betrayed his own
fellow comrades. Squealer also convinces the animals that their lives are much better than
they have originally had it.
Both of them have done enough damage for the animals to make them believe that their
lives have been a lot better than imagined.

What is most demoniacally human about the pigs is their use of language not only to
manipulate the immediate behavior of the animals through propaganda, emotive language,
and meaningless doubletalk but also to manipulate history, and thus challenge the nature of
actuality itself. This manipulation, however, is only one primary means of the pigs
control; another, equally important, is the threat of brute force as manifested by Napoleons
pack of vicious trained dogs. In the final image of the allegory, the realization is that
humans prove to be no better than animals, and animals prove to be no better than humans.

Both of these characters have lied and deceived their own comrades to enjoy themselves
on the Animal Farm.

As a result of both Napoleon and Squealer lying, deceiving and other things close to that,
both are convicted and sentenced to death.

Ideas to Consider
www.globalpost.com How to Write a College Character Analysis Essay

Defining the Role

Whether youre putting together an analysis of a main character or a minor character, it is important that your essay address the
role she plays in the story. Some roles, such as the protagonist and antagonist, may be obvious. Main characters can also serve
more complex roles than the simple protagonist definition. A lead character can be an underdog, an anti-hero, a tragic hero or
even an unwilling hero.
Discovering the purpose of a minor character often takes closer examination. Minor characters may be flat, two-dimensional
people who remain unchanged throughout the course of a story, or three-dimensional, rounded characters who experience their
own metamorphosis. These characters might serve as foils for the main characters, as older and wiser advisers, as sidekicks or
even as obstacles the main characters must overcome.

Finding Motivation
Everyone wants something, especially a character in a literary work. Whether a hero desperate to complete a quest, a villain
determined to stop him or a minor character along for the ride, each character in a story will have identifiable wants and needs.
Quite often, though, what a character wants is in direct opposition to what he really needs. For example, a man longing for the
attention of a woman out of his league might need to realize that hell only find true love when he sees his female sidekick in a
romantic light. At the college level, character analysis essays should go beyond simply identifying the wants and needs
motivating the characters; they should also address how the characters affect one another.

Addressing the Arc

While some minor characters are unchanging, most characters will be markedly different at the end of a story than they were at
the beginning. While main characters, such as the protagonist, often make the most dramatic, obvious changes, minor
characters also have a story arc. They might make only subtle changes, such as a sidekick quietly letting go to allow the hero to
find love or finish her mission alone. The arcs of unchanging characters should also be addressed, as they will most likely have
encountered situations in which theyve made the choice not to change.
