Corporate Mergers, Drug Costs: The


House defeated, 174-235, a bid by
Democrats to prevent HR 2745 (above) from
applying to proposed corporate mergers that
would lead to unreasonable increases in the
cost of prescription drugs. A yes vote was to
adopt the Democratic motion.

Allied Nations Border Security: The House


voted, 371-2, to require American allies to
either meet tough border-security standards
set by the United States or forfeit any U.S.
financial assistance, including foreign aid,
they now receive. A yes vote was to send HR
4314 to the Senate.
