Grand Opening of Sports Connection

Thank you for agreeing to serve on the Grand Opening Committee of Sports
Connection. Our mission is to plan a comprehensive grand opening that will
generate awareness of Sports Connection and its programs. We also want to
create a desire in individuals to purchase memberships in our facility and for
youth to enroll in our varied sports teams. The Grand Opening should help
the community to know about our mission to promote good sportsmanship,
fitness, good health, and recreational activities. But more importantly, the
Grand Opening will spark our citizens and their children and grandchildren to
take advantage of these many outstanding programs.
A list of the members of the Grand Opening Committee is shown at the
bottom of the next page. We are very fortunate to have Mr. Wallace Brooks
serve on this committee. Mr. Brooks worked with the development of the
grant that funded the improvements and additions to Sports Connection. He
presently serves as chair of the Community Foundation that oversees this
grant. Also, we appreciate the support of the Chamber of Commerce and the
university relations office of Central University. Thank you, Marilyn and
Wayne, for the expertise and experience you bring to this committee. Mayor
Skipwith or one of his officials will also represent the mayors office. Lastly,
my assistant director and three of the recreational supervisors will bring their
knowledge of Sports Connection and the recreational programs to our
committee.
The first official meeting of the Grand Opening Committee is scheduled for
Tuesday, October 19, 2016 at 9 a.m. in the Conference Room of Sports
Connection. Based on our phone survey, we have determined Tuesdays at 9
to be a suitable time for this committee to meet each week. Please mark
your calendars to meet each Tuesday from 9:00 10:30 until the Grand
Opening. For your convenience, our staff will provide coffee and a light
brunch at each meeting.
During the last few weeks, my assistant and I have compiled grand opening
plans of other sports facilities. During this process we have garnered advice
from these planners and will benefit from their experience. The following
table outlines a list of suggested events form which our committee can

review the items to be sure all expenses are listed and that the budgeted
amounts are in line with todays costs. Please bring your comments to the
meeting so that adjustments to the budget can be made and the budget
