Bell Work: document analysis. Students will examine a political cartoon
of the Industrial Revolution in GBR and answer the following questions:
1) Which words or phrases in the cartoon appear to be the most
significant?
2) List the adjectives that describe the emotions portrayed in the
cartoon
3) Which of the objects in the cartoon are symbols?

10 minutes

Review chapter 21 quiz from last class

10 minutes

Go over graphic organizer on industrialization and global capitalism that


was assigned as homework

20 minutes

Brief notes on PowerPoint on the environmental effects of the Industrial


Revolution

30 minutes

Student Activity: Found Poem. Students will do a close reading of two


different primary source documents from the Industrial Revolution. The
first document is about child labor while the second document focuses
on coal mining. After reading the documents students will create a found
poem that exemplifies the main idea of the documents.

10 minutes

Debrief found poem activity and assign homework

ASSESSMENTS
(INCLUDE FORMAL AND INFORMAL)
Formal assessment: chapter 21 quiz
informal formative assessment: go over the graphic organizer from homework,
randomly calling on students to share their answers. This will allow me to see how well
the students understood the information on the graphic organizer
formal assessment: found poems. The students found poems will allow me to assess
how well they understood the primary source doucments

HOMEWORK
read and take notes on pages 582-590 in the textbook
