Grade 2 Geometry and Spatial

identify and describe various three dimensional figures (i.e., cubes, prisms, pyramids) and
sort and classify them by their geometric properties (i.e., number and shape of faces), using
concrete materials (e.g., I separated the figures that have square faces from the ones that
dont.)
Learning Goal:
Use geometric properties to describe the three-dimensional solids
Without Technology
Before Start:
Review the 2D Properties chart the
students co-created during the 2D
geometry unit (sides, vertices,
angels). Tell students that we need
to create a properties chart for 3D
solids.

Work On:
Allow students the opportunity to
choose two different 3D solids from
the bin and ask them to discover:
The number of edges.
The number of vertices.
The number of faces.
The 2D shapes that make the 3D
solid.

With Technology
Before Start:
A- Create an assignment on prodigy game learn
based program and take them to the lab.
This will be the diagnostic and review what
they know about 2D and 3D shapes.
Or
B- Use some of the links from this site

to do as a class and review some previews
concepts.
Work On:
As a group of 2 or 3, give them an ipad and ask
them to take a picture of two different 3D solids and
ask them to create a Pic Collage. They will be
exploring solids and there number of edges,
vertices, faces and the 2D shapes that make 3D
solid.

They will be sharing to the class using the
interactive with board. Our interactive board can be
use as a regular white board, their might use
markers to show their findings (edges, vertices,
