Pulverising Mills
The bidder shall provide sufficient number of fuel pulverising mills according to the
arrangement of the firing system ensuring satisfactory turn-down. The number of mills
shall be N+1; it shall be possible to fire the lowest calorific value fuel at BMCR load with
one spare mill. The capacity of each mill shall not be less than 110% of BMCR when
firing the lowest calorific value fuel at the end of the wear life. The coal mills shall be of
vertical spindle roller type or the bidder may offer an alternative type with justification.
Each mill shall be fed with coal by an independent coal feeder. It should be possible to
completely isolate the mill from the furnace and perform maintenance while the steam
generator remains in operation.
Each pulveriser shall be complete with all lubrication, cooling, jacking systems required
for normal operation. The auxiliary system shall include required safety trips and
interlocks necessary for complete safe automated operation, such as low lube oil
pressure, high lube oil temperature, etc.
The mills shall be capable of running at part loads with the turn-down ratio of at least 2:1
and giving the maximum possible flexibility in unit operation. The mill outlet temperature
control shall be capable of achieving and maintaining rated temperature for adequately
drying the specified fuel range for all unit loads. The unit shall have a precise air to coal
ratio control system.
The Bidder shall take necessary precautions against ignition and explosion in the mills
and the transport pipeline between the mills and burners as per NFPA. The proven fire
detection and fire extinguishing systems in line shall be provided. The bidder will provide
a suitable system for inerting during start-up and shut-down of the mill to ensure safe
operation, including all piping, valves, instrumentation with interlock system. Inerting
systems using steam shall ensure adequate provision is made via the layout of
pulverized fuel pipes and operating philosophy that the opportunity for condensation
build up and mixing with pulverized fuel in fuel pipes is avoided.
The mill noise level shall not exceed the specified values. While selecting lagging,
background noise from adjacent mills, drive system and other secondary and stray
noises shall be taken into account.
