Medieval Period
The Medieval Ages began in the 5th century and continued through the start of the 16th century.
The Catholic Church greatly influenced the time period. Charlemagne ruled over The Franks and
The Romans and helped expand his kingdom. He created schools, religious temples, and other
institutions that have helped shape modern Europe. Muslim beliefs were written on paper, a
Chinese invention, and spread throughout the Kingdom. Paper was a rarity so most ideas and
stories were spread through people speaking or singing to others. Many epics originated from
this era and stories of romance were also very popular. Poems fantasized romance, chivalrous
love, and ballads. People of the era believed admiring and respecting a woman made a knight
nobler.
