Cristiano
Ronaldo. His story
Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro, born in Santo Antonio Madeira, Portugal in
February 5, 1985 was an unwanted child. His mother Dolores Aveiro said in many
interviews that she thought of abortion many times. Fortunately, for him his Mother
and Father Dolores and Jose Aveiro did not abort him. He was born with three other
siblings, two sisters and one brother. A few years after his birth his family realized he
had a growing passion for football so they decided to sign him up for the local soccer
club. He kept getting better and better and he was attracting a lot of positive attention
from clubs all around the country. His team coach said Cristiano was always better
than the other boys in the team. His father was a working alcoholic who was the kit
man for Andorinha FC. At the age of 12 the famous Portuguese team Sporting
Lisbon was very interested in Cristiano. Cristiano was very keen to pursue his career
in football and so were his parents. He wasnt doing too well in school either. In an
interview he revealed that the first day he went to his school his teacher mocked him
for his thick accent so he decided to throw a chair at his teacher, after that he got
expelled and decided to continue to focus on football. At age 13 he had to make a
huge sacrifice any 13 year old would be terrified to make, he moved to the capital of
Portugal alone and left his family just to be able to pursue his career and play for the
club that was interested in him in Lisbon. While he was there he was at a home stay,
he said that every night he cried because he missed his family. His parents visited
him for special occasions but they couldnt live with him due to financial issues. After
a few years everyone knew who he was and he started to attract attention from clubs
all over Europe such as Manchester United. Unfortunately, he got a rare heart
condition at age 15 and had to get major surgery, he was healed and got back to
playing football a few months later. He was playing very well for his club and the best
club in Europe was very interested in him. In 2003, Alex Ferguson the manager of
Manchester United made a deal for 12M pounds for him to move. As soon as he
arrived he asked for the number he played with in Sporting Lisbon but Ferguson
denied and said wear number 7. Ronaldo was hesitant to take number 7 because he
was scared to not live up to other great number 7s that played for Man U such as
Beckham and Cantona. Shortly after Ronaldos move to Man U he faced a tough
period in his life. His dad was an alcoholic for most of his adulthood and due to that
his father passed away in 2005. Ronaldo was struggling to perform for his club at that
time but Ferguson understood and gave him time off.

Ronaldos move to Real Madrid

In 2009, Real Madrid C.F.
made a 80M pound offer
for the star and
Manchester United could
not decline due to the
amount of money they
had offered. Ronaldos
player presentation was
the most welcoming ever
with and attendance of
80,000 people at the
Santiago Bernabeu
stadium. Since then he is
Real Madrids all time top
scorer with an astonishing
amount of 350 goals.

Ronaldos accomplishments
Cristiano Ronaldo has
won the FIFA player of the
year award (Balon Dor) 3
times. He is the first player
to win four European
Golden Shoe awards.
With Manchester United
and Real Madrid, Ronaldo
has won three
Premier Leagues, one La
Liga, one FA Cup, two
Football LeagueCups, two
Copas del Rey, two
UEFA Champions
Leagues, one UEFA
Super Cup and two FIFA
Club World Cups. He has
had a major positive effect
on all the clubs he has
played for.

"After we played
Sporting last week, the
lads in the dressing
room talked about him
constantly, and on the
plane back from the
game they urged me
to sign him. That's how
highly they rated him."
- Sir Alex Ferguson

Why does he inspire me?

Cristiano Ronaldo is a huge inspiration in my life because of his humble beginnings and his hard work to become
what he is today. Ronaldo always knows that even if he is the best, there is always room for improvement. That
made me realize that I have to keep working hard in life. Ronaldo has always been known as the hard worker
whereas someone like Messi is known as god given. I respect Ronaldo more for that. No matter what happens
Ronaldos philosophy is winning is all that matters. He also inspires me because of the fact that he had nothing
to grow up with and he still made it to where he is today.
