Halliday, M. (1994). An introduction to functional grammar (Second Edition).

London: Edward Arnold.

Halliday (1994) said that if the learners of English as a second language do
not understand the concept of tenses, they cannot advance their English at the high
level.
Grammar is an essential part of the use of language process, both in spoken
and written language. The grammar of a language is a description of the ways in
which the language uses patterns of structure to convey the meaning, so it would
be
impossible to learn language effectively without knowing the grammar, because
grammar helps learners to identify grammatical forms, which serves to enhance and
sharpen the expression of meaning
As asserted by
Chomsky cited by Steinberg, one of the fundamental language
abilities should be possessed by people in order to be able to
communicate is the ability to produce and comprehend
grammatical sentence

(London: Longman, 2001), 2nd ed, p. 345.
In order to make a
grammar lesson more effective, beneficial, and interesting a teacher should use
some well developed and fascinating techniques in the classroom. The examples
of such integrated sources and techniques, such as the use of songs, verses,
games, and problem solving activities will be clarified and several examples will be
provided.
