NAME: Bacillus cereus

ADDRESS: In a variety of foods, particularly rice and leftovers, as well as sauces,


soups, and other prepared foods that have sat out too long at room temperature.
BIRTHDAY: 2006
FAVORITES: I enjoy causing toxins and i can cause two types of illness: one type
characterized by diarrhea and the other, called emetic toxin, by nausea and
vomiting.
ABOUT ME: I am the cause of "fried rice syndrome", since i am classically
contracted from fried rice dishes that have been sitting at room temperature for
hours.

as Salmonella and Campylobacter in the gut, so my presence reduces the numbers


of those microorganisms.
TALENTS/SKILLS: In food animals such as chickens, rabbits and pigs some of my
harmless strains are used to a probiotics feed additive to reduce Salmonella in
the intestines and cecum. This improves the animals' growth as well as food safety
for humans who eat their meat.

NAME: Shigella
ADDRESS: I come from contaminated food or water or from people infected with
Shigellosis.
BIRTHDAY: 1897
FAVORITES: I cause Shigellosis, and I also cause Travellers Diarrhea. I usually enjoy
being around foods that involve a lot of hand contact during preparation, such as
salads and sandwiches.
ABOUT ME: My genus was named after Kiyoshi Shiga, who first discovered me in
1897. I belong in the Enterobacteriaceae family. I am also a gram-negative rodshaped pathogenic bacteria. You can tell that Im around if youre experiencing
abdominal cramps, diarrhea that contains blood or a bit of mucus.

TALENTS/SKILLS: I can survive gastric acids which makes me survive longer in


the abdominal area longer. And I have been found to survive not only in humans
and on higher primates, but also in flies. And there are no vaccines that can be used
against me, technically, you cant hide from me! ;)
