Colourpop (rainbow quartz crystal)

I chose this piece because it had beautiful colors that would help me do my color
mixing. I loved that my crystal had sharp edges and much defined edges. While I was on
the hunt for crystals, I found a lot that I like but this one caught my attention because of
the colors and contrast. The objective of creating this piece was to recreate my crystal as
is. It was difficult getting the colors to be accurate but my crystal itself came out as
desired. My crystal is a opal aura quartz, is created treated by fusing platinum and/or
silver crystals with heat and vacuum to give it its gorgeous angelic coloring. The crystal
is also known as pearl aura. It is said that its helpful; it can protect, balance, and bring
energetic health. It is located and created in a vacuum chamber from quartz crystals
and gold vapor by vapour deposition in a Laboratory-scale PECVD apparatus.
In the beginning I wanted to sketch my crystal in my IWB after I knew this was the
crystal I wanted to do I started to make a grid on my Masonite board. After I put my
white background I started sketching on crystal grid by grid. It wasnt as difficult as I
thought I would have been. I ended up loving how I drew it. I didnt want to draw the
whole crystal so I did zoom in the picture and cropped it to the size I wanted. I had to
create a lot of my colors on my IWB in the beginning. This was probably the most difficult
part of my project. I had to create a lot of paint so I could layer it down. I created a lot of
colors especially aqua blue and other colors like yellow, reddish orange and pinks with
purple. I used my notes f from class to create the colors I couldnt figure out on my own.
Over all the colors where good and I enjoyed using acrylic although its very messy to
work with.
My feelings towards my work piece are positive indeed. I enjoyed this project, at
first I thought I was not going to like this because I didnt want to use acrylic but at the
end I think I enjoyed using acrylic more than water color. I believe I did a phenomenal

job, in the beginning I had a dark purple background which I did not like and I decided to
paint it black so that my crystal pops out. I learned a lot, especially about colors and
using texture on my crystal. I learned to use mixed colors and different combinations in
my piece. Over all I enjoyed making my piece.
