Business Card
Description
Matching business card and letterhead using personally created logos and
themes.

Date
28 Feb 2016

Programs
Adobe Illustrator

Process and Tools

I began the process with the business card having sized an art-board down
to the standard business card dimensions of 3.5 by 2 inches. I buckled
my seat-belt, pulled out the pen tool, and went to work. Creating puzzle
pieces was some hefty work, and figuring out how to make them individual
moving pieces was my greatest moment of victory this week. Once I had
created a successful puzzle I duplicated it and reflected it so that the back
side of the card would match the front (i.e. if you cut up my business card
it is a working puzzle).

Process and Tools

Using photo shop I was able to take a photo of my nephew and a photo
of sheet music and mask them together creating a single image with new
meaning and a powerful message. Utilizing Layers I placed the image of the
sheet music underneath the photo of my nephew and then, having selected
the photo of my nephew, used layer masking to blend in the image behind
him. After the photo had been prepared created text and used elements
from the image to design a color scheme that would be complementary.

Using html code within Notepad++ I was able to organize the content
of my page. There I included the text and the link to the photo of the Up
and Under logo, using various codes in order to separate the material into
categories such as headings, divisions, and bullets.
Using CSS I was able to add style to the information included in the html.
I used color codes from the original Adobe Illustrator document in order
to coordinate the design elements with the logo itself. Using CSS code
I determined what fonts would be used throughout the webpage, and
created and styled the boxes which divide the body into several parts.

I began this process by creating a logo using Adobe Illustrator which would
convey what it is that the school stands for. I was able to make extensive
use of various tools including but not limited to the shapes tool, the direct
selection tool, and the rotate tool (the marionette has functioning joints!).
Having captured the image of the school with a logo I proceeded by
creating body text that would effectively preach the school doctrine.
Using Photoshop I cleaned up the picture of the marionette doll, using
the direct selection tool in order to preserve the image of the doll
himself, with all strings attached, while removing him from his original
background.
Ready to move over to InDesign, I organized the information, combined a
couple of suitable text and tied the whole project together using repeating
elements and an overarching color scheme.

Logo Design

Logo variations personally created for company

Programs
Adobe Illustrator

Process and Tools

I began this project by considering different companies for which I might
produce a logo and sketching out possible ideal. The sketching process
produced many ideas and concepts, my favorite of which was the invented
home improvement company Up and Under. From the sketchpad I
relocated to Adobe Illustrator creating various shapes from which to
build my finished product using the shape tool. I created three first draft
variations of what the logo could look like, after having recieved critique
and taking a poll it was determined which ideas were best, and how they
might be best combined to create an attractive and informative logo.
This final draft is a combination of elements from the first batch. The three
distinct versions of the final logo that would be appropriate for distinct
uses such as fliers, business cards, or websites.

I selected and scanned an image from a magazine page and brought that
image into Microsoft Word where I proceeded to add elements that would
contribute to the images theme and also help to communicate my message.
I selected shapes and a single font that would catch the viewers attention
while avoiding detracting from the image and layout. I used contrasting
colors in order to create a clear and legible message.

I began this process with by finding a good place to take a photo that
would include good lighting, composition, and sharp imagery. Once I
had captured a fitting image I brought it into Photoshop where I could
make some basic edits to enhance the photo in such a way that all of the
important elements could shine through. I chose colors based off of the
colors within the image that could compliment the existing dynamic of
the photo. I used a variety of tools within Photoshop in order to pull these
colors from the color wheel and incorporate them into the shapes that I
had created.

Capture and appealing image

Though this flier was created using principally Adobe InDesign, the process
began with with sketches which I used to formulate a plan determining
what would be an effective way in which I could target the desired
audience using design technique and principles. I then Began the process
of organizing the elements which I desired to use in the flier using Adobe
InDesign. After and original draft was made I sought critique which helped
me to gain outside perspective as to how the project may further be
developed and honed into an effective message.
