Dualization of Adam — Thumrait Road, Part 1 Special Specifications 18 UTILITIES 18.1 Locating and Protecting Existing Utilities 18.1.4 Method of Measurement Delete item 1 and replace with the following 1. The unit rate per linear meter for the item shall include excavation and backfilling, whether by hand or machine, for searching and protection of existing utility plant and Falajs including making trial pits. No separate payment shall be made for reinforcement, 18.2 Removing and Disposing of or Relocating Existing Utilities 18.2.4 Method of Measurement ‘Add the following after item 1 1a, The removal and disposal of existing electrical overhead cable shall be measured in linear metre for route length as described in the bill of quantities. This rate shall include all works. The removal and disposal of existing of electrical pylons (for 132 kv and 220 kv) shall be paid separately as the item mentioned in the bill of quantities (in number). Add the following after item 3: 3a. The provision and installation electrical new overhead cable shall be measured in linear metre for route length as described in the bill of quantities. This rate shall include all works. The Section 18; UTILITIES electrical pylons (for 132 kv and 220 kv) shall be paid separately as the item mentioned in the bill of quantities (in number), 3b. The provision and installation of telephone cable & FOC cable (Omantel and Nawras) and the duct for the same shall be measured separately in linear metre of the length of the items mentioned in the bill of quantities. This rate shall include all works Delete item 4 and replace with the following 4, No separate measurement shall be made for excavation and backfilling, whether by hand or machinery for removal, relocation / diversion of exiting utilities, 18.2.5 Basis of Payment Delete item 1 and replace with the following The amount of completed and accepted work measured as provided for above shall be paid for at the unit rate for each service stated in the Bill cof Quantities, which rate shall be considered full compensation for excavation, backfilling, locating, removing, relocating, installing and jointing of utilities, commissioning, testing and for materials, labour, transport, equipment, tools, supplies and all other items necessary for the proper completion of the work. 18.3 Future Utility Crossing 18.3.3 Construction Requirements Add the following to Construction Requirements under following sections after item 4 5. To prevent soil and/or sand blocking the ducts, the openings at both ends are to be protected with appropriate blanking caps. 6. The Contractor shall after completing each duct, make the necessary arrangements with the Services Authorities for testing and acceptance of the work 7. The Contractor shall supply continuous waming tape for service Authorities with the following requirements: a) The Contractor shall install approved warning tapes during backfilling work over buried pipes, cables, conduits and ducts, as required. Waring tapes shall be coloured and inscribed for identification according to the requirements of the relevant Authority. b) Warning tape shall be approved high quality, acid and alkali-resistant polyethylene film 250 Page 18-1 Dualization of Adam — Thumrait Road, Part 1 Special Specifications Section 18: UTILITIES mm wide, and with a minimum thickness of 150 microns, Tape shall have minimum tensile strength of 125 kg/cm? longitudinally and 105 kg/sq.cm* laterally with an elongation factor of 350% ©) Tape shall be printed with 50 mm high black lettering, alternatively in Arabic and English. The complete wordings shall be repeated every 2m along the tape. The colours shall be vivid, glossy and permanent with a life expectancy of 40 years. d) Warning tapes shall be placed with the inscriptions facing upwards. The level of the tape relating to the top of service shall be in accordance with the requirements of the relevant Authority. ) Warning tapes over non-metallic services shall be backed with Aluminum foil to facilitate detection. 8. The works relevant to the lowering of the existing service(s) will be started as soon as, according to the Engineer, all the necessary precautions have been taken to prevent any injury to person and/or property or services. 9. The excavation for lowering the existing service(s) shall be performed by hand down to the elevation indicated by the Engineer and/or the concerned authority 10. At all times the Contractor shall provide and maintain, at his expense, access to the adjoining properties to the satisfaction of the Engineer. 11. Where hedges are damaged or destroyed the whole shall be restored and reinstated with shrubs of the same kind as the hedge, planted in due season in an approved manner and fenced on each side with post and rail stock proof fences finished on top with one strand of galvanised barbed wire, or otherwise protected as required by the owners or occupiers and the Engineer. 12. The Contractor shall ensure that no trees are damaged or permanently removed in carrying out the Contract except where directed due to the presence of permanent works 18.3.4 Method of Measurement Delete item 2 and replace with the following: 2. The quantity of completed and accepted work for sleeves / pipe ducts measured in linear meters will be paid for at the unit rate in the Bill of Quantities, which rate shall be considered full compensation for excavation, backfilling, setting ut, installing, jointing, testing, concrete surround and for materials, labor, transport, equipment, tools supplies and all other necessary items for the proper completion of the work. The concrete surround shall be provided only to the ducts as shown in the Tender Drawings. Requirements for Water Works, Requirements for Electrical For Special Works, refer to Section 18.5. For Special Requirements for Telephone Lines (Oman Telecommunications Company, Nawras and MoD), refer to Section 18.6. 18.4 Water Works - Special Requirements General 1 This section deals with the specification for works to be carried out in connection with Water Service pipe works to be ultimately taken over by the PAEW (Water). The works as shown on the drawings shall be executed by the Contractor in accordance with the latest specifications and standards of the PAEW (Water) 2 The works include for the supply, installation, flushing, disinfection, testing and commissioning of the Water Service installation, the layout for which is shown on the Drawings. The Contractor shall include for all labour, materials, tools, equipment and appurtenances and tackle complete with all trenching supports and backfill. 3 The Contractor shall prepare all necessary working Drawings. The working Drawings shall clearly identify all valves, fittings, thrust blocks, fire hydrants, washouts, air valves, etc, The Contractor shall be responsible for the location of other services and the correct setting out of the installation. Pipes run through wadi shall be provided with standard wadi protection as per PAEW Standards and Specifications and as shown in the Contract Drawings. Page 18-2
