INGERSOLL RAND
INSTRUMENT AIR
COMPRESSOR (AC-1)
TROUBLE REPORT
TRIP HISTORY
On the 16th of December, 2015, at 08:10hrs, while carrying out plant inspection it was observed
that the number one Ingersoll rand compressor (AC-1) had tripped on ALARM - SENSOR FAILURE
50TT.
Again the air compressor was observed to have tripped with the alarm indication - HIGH BEARING
OIL TEMPERATURE the 19th of December, 2015, at 0901hrs.
The compressor had also tripped on several other occasions on SENSOR FAILURE 50TT.
Below is a screenshot of the alarm window.
Furthermore, the compressor was placed under very close supervision for other possible
malfunction. It is also worthy of note that preliminary troubleshooting was carried out to decipher
the root cause of the problem.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
The sensor cables and their terminations should be inspected for possible short circuit or loose
contact and relevant corrective action taken.
Bad sensor (if any) should be replaced.
RECOMMENDATION
Following the history of the number one Ingersoll Rand compressor, the equipment had been
worked on in the month of November, 2015 and there is a possibility that the sensor failure may
have emanated from the maintenance contractor.
It is therefore recommended that the same contractor be recalled to carry out maintenance on the
Air compressor.
