ABSTRACT

THE RELATIONSHIP OF SLEEPING QUALITY WITH BLOOD


PRESSURE ON THE ELDERLY IN PANTI SOSIAL
TRESNA WERDHA MINAULA KENDARI
Sleep is the state where recovery process for the body and mind takes plase and is very
crucial in order to gain the optimal health. The elderly often reported that having
difficulties to fall a sleep while in bed that cause the sleeping quality of elderly become
worse. The poor sleeping quality that continue happen can cause physiology changes that
increase of simpatic nerve activity, causing increase of blood pressure. These research
aims to identify the relationship between sleeping quality with blood pressure changes on
elderly in Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Minaula Kendari.
These research was observasional analytic research with Cross-Sectional design. The
population were all the elderly in Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Minaula Kendari consist
of 95 samples. The sampling method is total sampling. The instrument of these researchs
are PSQI questionnaire to asses the sleeping quality of elderly. Determination of blood
pressure was based on JNC VII. Data were analyzed by Kolmogorof-Smirnov.
The result of these researchs are elderly had poor sleeping quality as much as 77,2% and
53,3% prehypertension. Based on statistical test, found that there is a significant
relationship between sleeping quality with blood pressure in elderly (p=0,000) and a
component that most affects the sleeping quality is subjective sleep quality, sleep duration
and sleep efficiency.
The conclusion there were a relationship between sleeping quality with blood pressure in
elderly on Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha Minaula Kendari.
